Over recent years, in order to support the sustainable development of scallop farming, great progress has been made in scallop genetics and breeding in China.In this review, we summarized the main progress of scallop genetics and breeding in three aspects: genetic improvement on elite varieties, application of BLUP (best linear unbiased predictor) in EBV (estimated breeding value) analysis and the moving forward to molecular breeding and genomic level.
