Electro-Slag Remelting(ESR) technology often used in the preparation of aerospace materials such as high temperature alloys, the shape of the molten pool is a key factor to get the high quality ESR ingot.In this paper, the hot-top is applied in the ESR system to improve the shape of the molten pool, and the numerical simulation method is used to decide the hot-top position, the results show that: during the ESR process, when the hot-top is imposed at the junction of slag and ingot, the molten pool is shallow, however, when the hot-top is all located at slag part or all at ingot part, it will deepen the pool depth which is harmful to acquire the high quality ESR ingots.
