The existence ofmonoclinic phase has been supposed to contribute to the excellent piezoelectric properties at the morphotropic phase boundary in various piezoelectric systems. But,there has rarely experimental evidence confirming the piezoelectric behaviors of monoclinic phase in ceramic state. In this work, the ferroelectric mechanism of single monoclinic phase in Pb(Zr,Ti)O3 ceramic is identified for the first time by in-situ high energy synchrotron X-ray diffraction.Intriguingly, the monoclinic phase exhibits a unique piezoelectric property in terms of a large intrinsic lattice strain (d33 =520 pm/V) with negligible domain switching (△ηnorm/△E =0.51%/kV·cm-1).
