Ni-Fe-P ternary alloy coating was deposited on triplochiton sclexcylon veneers by electroless plating to prepare a magnetic,corrosion-resistant and electromagnetic shielding wood-based composite. The effects of solution pH and plating temperature on the deposition rate, surface resistivity, chemical composition and crystal structure of the coatings were investigated. The surface morphologies were observed by using scanning electron microscope(SEM)and the chemical composition of the coatings were analyzed by energy dispersive spectrometer(EDS)and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS).The magnetism and corrosion resistance were measured by vibrating sample magnetometer and potentiodynamic corrosion measurement. The results show that the deposition rate increases with pH value increasing from 8.6 to 9.2 and temperature increasing from 70 ℃ to 90 ℃.The coatings obtained at experimental condition are all crystalline. The coating is mainly consisted of Ni0,Fe0 and P0,but the surface was polluted by the component of the plating solution. The coatings are uniform, continuous and compact, and the special structure of wood is still seen clearly. The veneer-based composite exhibits higher corrosion resistance and magnetism. The ESE value reaches 40-60 dB in frequencies from 9 kHz to 1.5 GHz.This work provided a new pathway for producing multifunctional wood-based composite.
