Objective To observe the clinical effect of acupoint catgut embedding with regulating triple energizer method on simple obesity. Methods 60 obese patients were randomly assigned to the control group(metformin group) and the treatment group(acupoint catgut embedding group) with 30 cases in each group. The control group was given oral metformin tablet’s treatment of 90 days course. The treatment group was treated with catgut embedding treatment of once every 15 days, and total 6 times course. Taken the obesity index, TCM symptom, body circumference, clinical efficacy etc as the observation index, their all were compared both before and after treatment in each group and after treatment between the two groups when the course ending. Results 1. Comparison of clinical efficacy: the total effective rate of the control group was 66.7%, and that of the treatment group was 90%. The clinical efficacy of acupoint catgut embedding group was better tnan that of metformin group(P<0.05). 2.Improvement of phlegm-dampness syndrome: In improving phlegm-dampness syndrome, the total effective rate of the control group was 43%,and that of the treatment group was 90%,therefore the acupoint catgut embedding group was better than the metformin group(P<0.05).3.Comparison of obesity index and body circumference:In improving body weight and waist circumference, catgut embedding group was better than western medicine group(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in improving obesity, body mass index, hip circumference and waist-hip ratio between the two groups(P>0.05). Conclusions Treatment of simple obesity by catgut acupoint embedding with the prescription of regulating triple energizer method has many advantages,and is a clinical effective method of weight-reducing.
