Extreme weather and climate events tend to be linked to favorable large-scale background conditions of the atmosphere and oceans.Evidence has been found in both the interannual variations and the long-term changes of the extreme precipitation events over China in association with the conditions of the monsoon circulation over southern Asia and the sea surface temperature of the Indian Ocean. The presenter will discuss the prediction skills of the Asian and Indo-Pacific climate by the United States National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) Climate Forecast System version 2, which is a fully coupled forecast system used for operational climate prediction at NCEP and provides an important source of information for global and regional climate prediction.
