Developing inspection techniques and training inspectors became urgent for consistent and thorough inspection. To tackle this issue, old and deteriorated concrete and steel bridges, which were removed with various reasons, were collected and installed at Nagoya University with the help of NEXCO Central and Central Nippon Highway Engineering Nagoya. It was then named as N2U BRIDGE,and called "new bridge".Four removed old and deteriorated bridges were reassembled and displayed. Some other deteriorated components of highway bridges, including ASR affected piers, corroded steel girder end, removed steel bearings and concrete side wall, were collected.Inspection Training Model Panels,ITMP,concrete panels with various defects and conditions, such as voids, cold joints, with different re-bar spacing and covers, containing ASR aggregates, were added for both training inspectors and research.A typical plate girder with different paint systems was reconstructed for inspection of re-painting process. Moreover, fatigue cracks were introduced to typical steel girder,so that inspectors could see actual fatigue cracks, which were observed in Japanese highway bridges. The training programs with different levels were started at N2U BRIDGE in 2011.
