Electrochemical noise analysis of pitting corrosion of 304 stainless steel in NaCl solution

  The 304 stainless steels are widely used as piping materials in nuclear power plants,due to its excellent mechanical properties and corrosion resistance.In the present paper,the corrosion process of 304 stainless steel in NaCl solution was measured for about 40h by electrochemical noise(EN).In order to identify the different pitting states,the results of principal component analysis(PCA)/cluster analysis(CA),shot noise theory,wavelet analysis and surface micrographs wereanalyzed and compared.According to the results,PCA/CA can be used in analyzing the EN data in this experiment.The pitting process was classified by the K-means CA to three states.The results of wavelet analysis can account for the three different states,i.e.the induction of pitting,the meta-steady state and the steady state.And they were consistent with the results of shot noise theory and the surface morphology.
