The effect of pulsed electric field treatment on esterification between lactic acid and ethanol was investigated in this paper.All experiments were conducted under constant moderate temperature and non-catalytic condition.Results indicated that the esterification rate was increased with increasing electric field strength, treatment time as well as the molar ratio between ethanol and lactic acid.When the applied PFF intensity was 25 kV/cm and the total recycle time (reaction time) was 10 h, the production of ethyl lactate was increased by 110% comparing with untreated sample.
