A thermodynamic model of a membrane humidifier is developed in this work by applying vapor mass transfer to investi-gate the performance of hollow fiber membrane humidifier. In the present study,a novel one-dimensional mathematical model has been formulated for the water mass balance and hydration of a polymer electrolyte membrane. The humidifier temperature and pressure differ-ence between two sides are investigated by experimental setup which influence the water mass balance and the distribution of the mem-brane water. The results indicate that in hollow fiber membrane humidifier, the increase in the pressure at dry side inlet leads to a higher water vapor transfer rate at dry side outlet, consequently,a better humidifier performance.
