As a novel class of inorganic phosphors, oxynitride and nitride luminescent materials have received increasing attention because of their excellent optical properties.α-SiAlON is a solid solution of α-Si3N4 stabilized by interstitial dissolution of cations of Li, Mg, Ca, Y or some lanthanides.Cerium-doped α-SiAlON is a green-blue-emitting phosphor.Ce-α-SiAlON exhibits interesting microstructures, which makes it be distinguished from other RE-doped α-SiAlON materials.EDS results indicate that on the planar defects, Ce concentration is higher than that of the perfect lattice implying congregation of Ce ions near the planar defects.
