  Adulteration of herbal dietary supplements with synthetic antidiabetic drugs without labeling is illegal.Liquid chromatography (LC) coupled with mass spectrometry (MS) have been widely used for the analysis of synthetic drugs in herbal products.However, tens of minutes or even several hours are usually required for sample pretreatment and separation.It is definitely time-consuming for the routine screening of adulterants in large numbers of herbal products on the market.In this study, the direct analysis in real time (DART) source was coupled to quadruple time of flight mass spectrometry (QTOF MS) for the rapid screening of synthetic antidiabetic drugs adulterated in herbal dietary supplements.Seven widely used antidiabetic drugs, including glibenclamide, gliclazide, glipizide, gliquidone, metformin, nateglinide, and rosiglitazone, were selected in our study.The supplement sample was simply extracted with methanol/water by manually shaking several times and subsequently analyzed by DART-MS without chromatographic separation.The adulteration of synthetic drugs was confirmed by the accurate m/z values combined with the MS/MS data.
