Meeting the rapidly growing global demand for vegetable oil from oilseed rape/canola (Brassica napus) is being increasingly threatened by dry conditions in many parts of the world.Brassica rapa,one of the diploid progenitor species of allotetraploid B.napus,has great genetic diversity among the cultivated Brassica species,and is therefore a potential source of drought tolerance alleles for canola breeders.We aim to explore drought tolerance in B.rapa by firstly having a better understanding of the genetic variation to enable its targeted exploitation in B.napus breeding,secondly evaluating their different responses under a transient drought treatment during the early reproductive phase across nine "representative" B.rapa accessions,which were selected based on previous research on phenotypic and genotypic diversity.
