Extensive loss of DNA methylation is a common hallmark of cancer.Nevertheless, the focus of attention has been directed at hypermethylation of tumor suppressor genes while the role of hypomethylation in altering the landscape of gene expression has been poorly understood.Hepatic cellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most common human cancer types.We used this tumor as a model to delineate the landscape of hypomethylation in cancer by a combination of methylated DNA immunoprecipitation and hybridization with comprehensive promoter arrays.
