A Study on Characteristics of Real Pedestrian-Passenger Vehicle Accidents in China

  This paper aimed atexploring the characteristics of pedestrian accidents in China based on the real accidents data and the effectiveness of pedestrian protection regulations. Data of 488 passenger-car-to-pedestrian accidents collected by CIDAS were ana- lyzed. The result indicated that pedestrian was mostly hit by the vehicle front structure on the side and vehicle speed influence the pedes- trian serious injury risk. Moreover, pedestrian protection legislation is effective in reduce the pedestrian serious injury risk, but still could be modified to fit the practical characteristics of pedestrian accidents in China.
