The MYB family of transcription factors plays an important role in plant development and their response to variable environmental stresses. In this paper a MYB gene named PeMYB2,was isolated, characterized and cloned from Phyllostacheys edulis by rapid amplification of cDNA ends (RACE).The full-length PeMYB2 contains 1766 nucleotides with an open reading frame of 1281 bp encoding a polypeptide of 427 amino acids.Sequence alignment and phylogenetic analysis showed that PeMYB2 is a typical R2R3-MYB: it contains two tandem repeats in its N-terminal.Thermal asymmetric PCR (TAIL-PCR) was used to clone the promoter for PeMYB2.The promoter contained 1457 nucleotides.A yeast one-hybrid assay showed that PeMYB2 was a trans-activator,and the transactivation activity was localized in the C-terminal region.Expression analysis indicated that expression levels of PeMYB2 increase under cold and drought stresses as well as abscisic acid conditions. Therefore, this paper suggests that PeMYB2 might play an important role in various responses to abiotic stresses in P.edulis.
