Content: Starvation of Mxyococcus xanthus cells induces a stringent response, which in turn can trigger the developmental program, resulting in cellular differentiation and the formation of a multicellular aggregate called a fruiting body.A cascade of developmental genes regulates the progression of cells from the vegetative state to the fruiting body. One potential regulatory checkpoint is DNA replication, which is tightly regulated during this process.
