  In order to develop a new method for removal of heavy metals from a dilute wastewater, the adsorption process and mechanism of zinc (Ⅱ) ions from aqueous solutions by opal e were investigated.The influences of systematic temperature, pH value, adsorbing time, particle sizes of opal, agitation speed, initial concentration of metal ion on the removal efficiency were studied, and adsorption thermodynamics kinetics and of the process were also studied.The results showed that opal is a promising mineral sorbent, the kinetic model of the adsorption process followed the first order kinetic model, and the equilibrium isotherm of zinc adsorption onto opal was consistent with Freundlich isothermal equation.
