Multifunctional hollow nanoparticles have attracted lots of attentions for their great potential in drug delivery and treatment in the battles with cancer1, 2. However, for hollow nanostructure agents, complicated synthesis processes and uncontrolled shapes are the main obstacles for their further development and application. In this paper, we present the design, synthesize, surface functionalization and the application of hollow CuS nanocavity (as shown in Fig.1) as a multi-modal therapy in human breast cancer cell line MCF-7 cells in vitro. First, we synthesize CuS nanocavity (In Fig.2) with high photothermal conversion efficiency and excellence storage capacity for anticancer drug of doxorubicin (DOX, 99.5 %) by a facile one-step method. Then, after conjugated with folic acid (FA), the CuS nanocomposites exhibited improved biocompatibility and a targeted effect through endocytosis pathway. Moreover, the DOX drug loading nanocomposites have shown great pH value and NIR responsive release. The results also showed that when compared to the photothermal and chemo-therapy alone, the synthesized CuS nanocomposites shows a better therapy effect (as shown in Fig.3) and bright future as new therapeutic agent for cancer therapy in clinical.
