Phosphorylation occurs chiefly on serine,threonine,and tyrosine residues.Phosphoserine,phosphothreonine and phosphotyrosine occur at a ratio of 1800∶200∶1 in vertebrates.Although tyrosine phosphorylation is least abundant,it deserves special interest as it is an essential regulator of cellular growth,differentiation,migration,metabolism,gene transcription,ion-channel activity and polarization.
