Distributed rainfall-runoff models incorporating the kinematic wave flow method are widely used.Especially, in Japan, after the theoretical analyses of the kinematic flow by Takasao (1959), the kinematic wave method has been applied at many catchments and it has been embedded in distributed rainfall-runoff models with various extensions.In this presentation, an achievement, limitation, and challenge of a distributed rainfall-runoff model with the kinematic wave method is discussed.
