Objective: To explore the protective effects of Daidzein (DD) on cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury and study its mechanism about inflammatory response and cytokine secretion. Methods: A rat ischemia/reperfusion injury animal model was made through embolization of the middle cerebral artery. The injury rats were treated with DD, using sublingual vein injection. The volumes of infarction and water content in the cerebral tissue, and the levels of IL-1β and TNF-α in the serum were measured. Results: After treatment, the rats with cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury showed a decrease in the volumes of infarction, water content (P<0.05), IL-1βand TNFα (P<0.05).Conclusion: DD has a therapeutic effect on rat cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury because it down-regulates IL-1 β and TNF expression, inhibits inflammatory response, and then decreases cerebral edema.
