Existing advanced and novel technologies for endoluminal staging and evaluation of tumor invasion are reviewed:Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) is the most accurate method to define both T and N staging of esophageal carcinoma with accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity over 90%.A strategy for preservation of the esophagus may be possible in patients who have EUS-designated T1n0 cancer afar successful endoscopic therapy.EUS was found to be superior to MRI for T1 staging of Gastric cancer, and in the assessment of lymph node infiltration.EUS determination of the invasion depth of gastric MALT lymphoma helps predict a response to H pylori eradication.EUS is one of the most promising techniques for early detection of pancreatic lesions.With or without fine needle aspiration, it is highly sensitive and accurate in staging and is superior to most other imaging modalities.
