In this study, weve explored the physical mechanism of low cloud feedbacks in a unified scheme, named Cloud Layers Unified by Binormals(CLUBB)coupled to Community Atmosphere Model version 5(CAM5).Our results show that reductions of low cloud fractions in the most stable tropical regime dominated by stratocumulus are mainly caused by weakened turbulent mixing. As climate warms, the stronger lower atmospheric stability may provide a trigger for decrease in low cloud fractions,by inhibiting the turbulent mixing in the planet boundary layer(PBL)and thus blocking the moisture source of cloud layers from sea surface.
