  党的十八大报告把生态文明建设放在了突出地位,着重提出,大力推进生态文明建设。建设生态文明,是关系人民福祉、关乎民族未来的长远大计。这一措施是确保经济社会健康、可持续发展的重要途径,也是促进人的全面发展和构建和谐社会的必然选择。它不仅是社会现实、科技发展和实践积累等方面的内在要求,更提供了一种理解社会主义和谐社会本质的新思路,明确了保护民生是社会主义中国建设发展的任务,以构建人与自然和谐关系的形式表现出来的"民生"亦是社会主义政党的关注点。
