Science is based on communication:papers, posters, oral communications. We all face the same problems in how to translate our questions, hypotheses into logic experiments and report the results to the scientific community.Questions you have to ask yourself are:who do I want to reach with my message,so which journal to choose? How can you judge the quality of a journal,by impact factors,or other criteria? What is the best way to start to write a paper, what are the requirements of a journal?Important is always to read the instruction to authors and follow these strictly. The actual writing is a total different thing in which each has his/her own procedures, but a clear objective, hypothesis is a must to start with. With that on paper you may write the introduction, why is this study important and what is already known, followed by an explanation of the experimental design. At the end of the introduction you may already briefly mention whether the experiments were successful for answering your questions,or proving your hypothesis. The materials and methods can always be written separately from the other parts, they are purely descriptive.Next is to deal with the results, first step might be to prepare the figure and/or tables.Particularly figures tell in one second what it is all about, without the need for words, whereas describing the same in words might be quite difficult.Once you have the figures selected you can write the results(no need to repeat what is already obvious from the figures/tables)and subsequently the discussion of the results and how these answers the questions/hypothesis formulated in the introduction. At the very end a short summary of the conclusions and some perspectives for future studies would be important.A paper cannot be written in one step, many drafts are usually needed to come to a final version.Even then it is important to ask a colleague to read it,as what is maybe understandable and logic for you because of your knowledge of the topic,is not necessarily as easy to understand for others.Be honest about your results,do not give superlatives about a method or an activity, but be realistic and compare this with other papers.Do not send your colleagues in the wrong direction by overestimating your results. The abstract must be a complete reflection of the results of your paper. Finally always think about the title as that attracts colleagues to read your paper, likewise keywords are essential for your paper to be found by colleagues. Finally when you submit your paper,be sure that you have followed all the rules of the journal. To use a wrong format of the references is sloppy,so how to trust your results? If an editor has a negative impression of your paper chances for acceptance will be smaller, than in case of submitting a paper that is following the instructions of the journal. But many times, like all of us,you will find that reviewers have many comments, and most journals have rejection rates of 70-80%.So when your paper is rejected, you should realize that we all have that same experience. That is the way to learn how to do better next time, which is part of the permanent quest of improving ourselves as scientists.
