Structural and functional genomics investigations are making an important impact on the current understanding and application of microbial agents used for plant disease control (Lorito et al., 2010).The availability of genome sequences of Trichoderma species (T.reesei, T.atroviride, T.virens, T.asperellum, T.harzianum, T.citrinoviride, T.Iongibrachiatum or T.hamatum) has stimulated the development of systems biological approaches, initiated and enhanced whole-genome expression studies, and provided unique data for phylogenetic and bioinformatic analyses (Mukherjee et al., 2013) toward understanding the roles of their mycotrophic lifestyle, which includes mycoparasitism and saprophytic growth, and the underlying mechanisms by which the Trichoderma-plant interaction modifies the equilibrium between plant growth and defense against both pathogens and environmental damage (Hermosa et al., 2013).
