Even though rarely encountered,the formation of superlattice structures is a well-known phenomenon in metal alloys and metal oxides.In that case,the atomic structure is commonly distinguished by alternating layers of similar crystal structure.Examples of those structures can be found in colloidal systems and by assembling 2D structures into a 3D stack.
