Methylation is an important pathway and occurs ubiquitously in diverse biochemical reaction processes.Recently, the results from several investigations have revealed a possible relationship between methylation and Parkinsons disease (PD).Salsolinol N-methyltrans-ferases (SNMT) was found to contribute to the development of PD and methylated analogs, N-methyl-Salsolinol (1,2-dimethyl-6,7-dihydroxy-l,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline; NMSal) was structurally related to MPTP, which is known to cause PD.
