Closed suction drain (CSD) is a common post-operative treatment in orthopaedics surgery on purpose of reducing hematoma, eliminating infection and promoting recovery.In spite of its advantages in promoting recovery, CSD can also be detrimental in post-operative management, especially with respect to unexpected iatrogenic hemorrhage.We hypothesize that iatrogenic post-operative hemorrhage could probably be a result of inappropriately chosen or positioned CSD system.The drainage tube induces direct suction when its tip is close to invaded venous plexus blindly, and destroys focal hemostasis by the accidental formation of "Vacuum Sealing Drainage" system.Meanwhile, overwhelmed aspiration power erases tamponade effect and deteriorates hemostasis condition as well.Finally, unfamiliarity of anatomy could be an additional risk factor.
