Cortical spreading depression (CSD) is a transient disruption of ionic homeostasis, followed by depression that can propagate slowly across the cortex. This phenomenon is believed to promote changes in cortex biochemistry and to contribute to the initiation of migraine.Using an efficient retinal spreading depression model and a unique microdialysis-based CSD model of rats, as well as cellular and molecular biology techniques, we aim to investigate the role of the action of CSD models in migraine.
