An automated registration method for large mismatching images based on MSER features

An automatic registration algorithm is proposed based on affine invariant region of Maximally Stable Extremal Regions (MSER).Firstly,the MSER which would be fitted by affine ellipses was detected in multiple scale space of Gaussian.Secondly,fitted ellipses were described and matched by descriptor of SIFT,in the process of which a substantial of coarse matching points were obtained,and then we could reject outliers adopting the strategy of random sample consensus.Furthermore,the least square matching method was implemented to produce fine matching points,and the good initial values which would ensure a better convergence were generated from the semimajor axes,semiminor axes and direction angles of ellipses.In this case,we could establish the projective transformation modelbased on the precise control points.Finally,four groups of representative stereo images were applied to this experiment,which demonstrated that the proposed algorithm could be robust for the images which include rotation,zooming orview changing,and the registration results reach the accuracy of sub-pixel.
