Introduction The aim of this study is to give an overview of the development of resources and services of the National Library and Documentation Centre (NLDC) (National Library of Sri Lanka).When compared with the other countries of the world, the establishment of the National Library of Sri Lanka somewhat delayed.The preliminary activities for the establishment of the National Library of Sri Lanka were carried out in 1960s.Various scholars and commissions pointed out the necessity of establishing a National Library for Sri Lanka.
