Bio-oil, produced by fast pyrolysis of a biomass feedstock, is a potential alternative fuel and source of high-value biochemicals.Bio-oil is a complex mixture of acids, alcohols, sugars and other multifunctioual compounds.The presence of a relatively large fraction of organic acids, as compared to traditional petroleum, causes problems with processing and storage.
