Surgical techniques in colorectal surgery have made tremendous progress over the last two decades. In the past, a standard colectomy will require a long midline vertical incision (10-15cm) from the xiphoid process to the suprapubic area. This is followed by the introduction of left iliac fossa skin crease incision or mini-laparotomy approach (8-10cm).More recently, laparosocopic surgery using a few stab incisions (5-12mm) for working ports and a much smaller incision (6-8cm) to retrieve the specimen.Laparoscopic colorectal surgery has since become feasible and more widely accepted now as it provides both short and long term benefits to patients recovery. In the relentless efforts of surgeons trying to achieve a smaller or no incision at all, in order to minimize pain and to improve cosmetic outcome, various techniques have been invented and tested. One such technique is called Single Port Laparoscopy.
