Objective: Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are extracellularly acting endopeptidases the substrates of which are matrix and adhesion molecules.Cytokines derived from infiltrating leukocytes regulate MMP-2/9 activity at the parenchymal border, which differentially modulates chemokine activities,thereby accelerating leukocyte migration into the central nervous system.The primary aim of the present study was to evaluate associations between the functionaIMMP-2 rs243865 and MMP-9 rs3918242 gene polymorphism and the deficit and severity of EV71 infection in a Chinese population.
