Monitoring and management of urban contaminated fields based on RS and GIS--A case study in Beijing,

  Along with the acceleration of industrialization progress,the urban contaminated fields gradually become a bottleneck of city environment development.The urban contaminated field that the industrialization causes has characteristics such as concealment,accumulation,transference and variety of pollution sources etc.As the primary load-bearing place of human activity,urban contaminated field has produced tremendous hazard to human health and environment safety.Compared with the traditional monitoring means,remote sensing (RS) possesses many advantages such as synchronous observation in large area,real-time update,the synthesis of spatial data and economy etc.The geography information system (GIS) has a strong capability of spatial analysis and visual display,which can display spatial characteristics of contaminated field intuitively.This study took industrial contaminated land,gas station and solid waste landfill field in Beijing city as research objects.We collected RS images,land-use maps,monitoring reports of environment,contaminated fields information about meteorology,hydrology and geology.All above-mentioned information was storied in GIS by pre-designed framework.By dealing with RS images and analyzing land-use data,GIS ascertained the spatial characteristics of contaminated fields and displayed it visually.Contaminated field property database was built by GIS,which included contaminated fields geographical coordinates,topology relationship etc.geometrical properties and land-use way,pollutant type,polluting strength,polluting history,meteorological,hydrological and geological conditions of contaminated fields,the situation of pollution repair etc.non-geometrical properties.Repair skill database of contaminated field was built by EXCEL,including technology principle,applicability,advantage and disadvantage,costing analysis of per contaminated field unit etc.properties.Finally,by using spatial analysis model of GIS,it can achieve dynamic link of the above-mentioned database.Based on the dynamic link,users can carry through spatial query,spatial data interpolation,buffer analysis of contaminated field and overlay analysis etc.works; they also can query practicable repair skills of contaminated field according to the material properties of contaminated field unit.These results can provide a basis of policy decision on urban contaminated field monitoring and management.By updating RS images and contaminated field property data timely,it can monitor the urban contaminated field dynamically.
