It is well-established that radiation induces apparent G2/M arrest in tumor cells as revealed by flow cytometric (FCM) analysis using DNA intercalaters such as propidium iodide.
On November 1992, a radiation accident occurred in Xinzhou due to pick-up an unused 60Co source by a farmer. There were total 37 individuals exposed to irradiation during the accident.
Cellular senescence is a physiological program of irreversible growth arrest that is considered to play an important role in tumor suppression.

Radiation-induced bystander effect was defined as the induction of damage in neighboring non-hit cells by signals released from directly-irradiated cells.
Radiation-induced bystander effects are described as the ability of cells affected by irradiation to convey manifestations of damage to neighbor cells not directly irradiated by the radiation.
Clinical application of the idea that was proposed by the American physicist Prof.Gordon Locker in 1936 was tried by the neurosurgeons of U.S.in the 1950s.

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) act as mediators of ionizing radiation induced cellular damage.ROS play a critical role in cellular responses and cell death following exposure to ionizing radiation.
Radioresistance remains the major obstacle to the treatment success of human cervical cancer. The present study was aimed to identify miRNAs associated with radioresistance of cervical cancer cells.
In 1994, carbon ion radiotherapy was begun at the NIRS (National Institute of Radiological Sciences) using HIMAC (Heavy-Ion Medical Accelerator in Chiba),which was the worlds first heavy ion accelerat
