Peroxisome pmliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) regulate lipid and glucose metabolism in higher organisms and play important roles in the pathogenesis of Type Ⅱ diabetes and obesity.In order to fred potent natural PPAR agonists,389 ethylacetate extracts from Korean traditional medicinal plants were screened for PPAR activation.Samples were prepared as three concentrations (100ng/ml,20ng/ml and 4ng/ml) and PPAR agonist activity was measured by reporter gene assay.In brief,the CHO cells transfected with DRl-luc and β-gal vectors were treated three concentrations of each plant extracts and the DR1 promoter activity was assessed by luciferase assay.The data were compared with negative control and two known PPAR agonists,fenofibrate (100μM) and troglitazone (10 μM),respectively.
