Lab-on-chip applications often require rapid mixing of different microfluidic streams. But the flow is usually high ordered laminar flow at microscale. This paper takes the advantages of AC electroosmotic effects to mix low conductive microfluids.By using an AC voltage of 3~5V, the microfluids fluids are active to form certain electroosmotic flow patterns that perturb the parallel streamlines in the otherwise laminar flow. Thus rapid mixing is achieved by the disturbance flow which is perpendicular to the main direction of the channel.
