Despite GABAergic intemeurons in the hippocampal dentate gyrus account for less than 10% of total neuron population, they play key roles in dentate network operations.Like classification of interneurons in the cerebral cortex, morphological features, electrophysiological properties, the expression of specific molecules as well axonal projection patterns have also been used to classify GABAergic intemeurons in the dentate gyrus.
