Objective: Image segmentation plays a key role in digital surgery, manual and semi-automatic segmentations actually increase workloads of doctors. This paper presents a method of automatic segmentation for Computed Tomography (CT) images of normal human craniomaxillofacial bones based on atlas. Methods: Based on the abundant structural information from anatomic atlas, CT images of normal human craniomaxillofacial bone were segmented automatically. This method was divided into 2 steps.Firstly, CT images of normal human craniomaxillofacial bone were registered with anatomic atlas, through the step of registration, the topological information which stored in atlas were mapped directly with CT images of normal human craniomaxillofacial bone. And then, the method of fuzzy clustering segmentation was used to segment CT images of normal human craniomaxillofacial bone by the pre-segmentation templates.
