@@ Relational nouns (hereafter RNs) can be roughly defined as nouns having more than one argument (Berker, 1995; Asudeh, 2005). Kinship nouns like father, bearing relation as their lexical meaning (Berker and Dowty, 1993), are of the prototype of RNs. This study is restricted to lexical RNs. RNs, like reflexives, also pick up their reference from antecedents which c-command them. For example, in the sentence John loves his father, the referent of father depends on the interpretation of the referent of his. We refer to this phenomenon as referential dependence.
