@@1.Archean crust evolutionThe Rangnim Massif occupies wide regions in the Korean Peninsula, in which the oldest rocks are distributed with a limited area in the Nampho(western part), Jangphng (central part) and Kosong(eastern margin) districts.These rocks are called the Nampho Group, Jangphung Group and grey gneiss, respectively, and consist of hypersthen gneiss, granogneiss, amphibole-biotitic siliceous gneiss. All these rocks come tectonically in contact with various kinds of rocks in age. In addition, a Paleoarchean age was obtained on placer zircon in the Rivers Taedong and Songchon flowing through the Rangnim Massif(Appendix 1). This means that there was already a crust evolved fairly, namely Paleoarchean continental nucleus, in the Rangnim Massif.
