Chikungunya,an arboviral infection transmitted mainly by Aedes aegypti and Ae.albopictus,is a serious re-emerging disease in India.Since its maiden occurrence in the 1960s,when it was invariably transmitted by Aedes aegypti Linn,it has again struck as many as sixteen States and Union Territories in 2005-06,including the Kerala State,a terra incognito for the disease until then.
