This paper outlines the development of a uniquely effective Sex and Relationships Education (SRE) programme in UK high schools from a 2-school research project to a service programme currently involving approximately 150 schools across England,Wales & Eire.Added Power And Understanding in Sex Education (APAUSE) developed original research in 2 schools which included sessions delivered by adults and others delivered by young people as peer educators and demonstrated unique evidence of educational gain and health benefit (Mellanby et al 1995a).
