The marine animal phylum Placozoa is key for understanding the early evolution of animals.Due to its very simple morphology placozoans are seen close or at the very base of the Metazoa.The Placozoa completely lacks a systematic classification and is yet monotypic with Trichoplax adhaerens as the only described species.
