Speciation of a metal determines its physicochemical properties,reactivity,and bioavailability,and thus governs its environmental fate and toxicity.Speciation analysis of metals and metalloids,e.g.,arsenic and mercury,holds the key to understanding their transport and transformation in the environment and uptake and metabolism in biological systems.
