2-Ethylhexyl nitrate(2-EHN)is an excellent cetane improver.The main approach to produce 2-EHN is to react 2-ethylhexanol(2-EHO)with nitric acid using concentrated sulfuric acid as catalyst.It is a typical of strong exothermic and liquid-liquid heterogeneous reaction.Thus it may occur temperature runaway when the reaction is carried out in traditional batch tank reactor due to nonuniform heat transfer.Microreactor has a large surface area,and excellent heat and mass transfer[1],reaction heat can be quickly removed to ensureprocess security.Thus a microchannel reactor was applied to investigate the nitration process of 2-EHO.This work investigated the effects of reaction temperature,nitrate to 2-EHO molar ratio,residence time and the water content of mixed acid.The conversion of 2-EHO was up to 99%when residence time was less than 10s along with special comprised acids.
