Mind maps represent information processed from various sources with graphics, colors and key words, thereby simplifying complexity by enabling users to interact with information and ideas the way their minds do naturally.Efficacy of mind maps as a strategy to improve performance has been documented in medical care, management, teaching and the like abroad.Attracted by the amazing features of mind maps that are potentially helpful in facilitating active learning, we introduced mind maps in our three undergraduate courses. The experimental application of mind maps in our teaching formed three stages with increasing involvement of students in construction of mind maps.We find that mind mapping is a useful strategy in active learning, and it is helpful in motivating students, enhancing their initiatives, stimulating their creativity, systemizing their knowledge and thereby enhancing teaching and learning effectiveness, especially when students are engaged in the construction of mind maps in groups. Therefore, we recommend more use of mind maps in undergraduate course teaching.
